Role playing really works

You might look and sound silly (in your opinion) but this really works.

Whether its a presenation, a phone call or a networking event where you want to try out a new approach – record yourself doing this.  It will help you to identify any areas where you need to fine tune and also will alert you of any “filler words” that you tend to use regularly.

Even better if you have somebody who can take on the part of the other person for you – if not you will have to anticipate their responses – and do a few different ones – so that you can prepare for them and have your own appropriate response ready.

So if your aim was to make a call to a prospect, your role playing could include them not being there and having to get the gate-keeper on side, them answering the phone personally and somebody telling you they don’t want your product or services.  Often you will find you are much harsher on yourself than anyone else would be so its great practice!

If you would like any help in this area, please let me know.

I started Elite Edge at the end of 1999 and I am still as passionate about marketing today as I was then - probably more so because I consider myself very lucky to do a job that I love every day! My area of specialism is strategic planning but like most people these days, I wear many other hats too!
