2012 – make this your best year ever

Today sees the UK resume “normal business” following the festive break and as the New Year gets underway, make sure your business isn’t left behind.

Remember those plans for 2011?  Did you achieve them?  Are you still beating yourself up over the ones you didn’t complete?  It’s time to stop RIGHT NOW!

Decide what you want to do this year (business, personal or both), break that down into monthly, weekly and daily actions that you can prioritise and work through to make sure that you are making consistent progress towards your goals.  Start the way you mean to go on and set realistic goals.  In doing so, you should be able to start to work on your business more as well as working in it.  Action inspires action so do something every day that fits into your plan.

Do you have contacts that you need to reacquaint yourself with?  Leads that went dead that you need to resurrect?  Think about who can give you business and also the best way to get in front of those people.  Would brushing up on your social media skills help you to develop relationships on LinkedIn for example?  Would it be beneficial for you to join trade groups in the sectors you are targeting?  Are there things that you know would give you big results by putting in regular effort?

Its all about working smarter, not harder.  We each have the same amount of time available to us and we have to be aware that choosing to do one thing means that by default we are not doing something else.  Make the best choices to maximise your productivity and you will begin to reap the benefits quickly.

Finally, don’t wait for things to be perfect because you’ll get nothing done!

Here’s to a productive and prosperous 2012!

I started Elite Edge at the end of 1999 and I am still as passionate about marketing today as I was then - probably more so because I consider myself very lucky to do a job that I love every day! My area of specialism is strategic planning but like most people these days, I wear many other hats too!
